I’m really obsessively knitting this at the moment. It’s really simple, quick to knit and there is no sense of “impending project” guilt if I don’t knit a puff every day.

Yes, my Nouveau Capelet swatch is stalled, but I really need more ‘alone concentrate-y day time knitting’ time.

So alongside my Hexapuffs and Half Hexies, I’ve started to adorn some of my puffs.

flowerpuffs

I figure I’m kind of creating a woodland type theme (there may be one or two geekazoidal puffs in amongst the mix if you can spot them), so some flowers would be pretty.  They’re little crocheted daisies and a crocheted leaf.  Sewn on with their own tail.

I envisage more than two on my quilt.

I have been asked for the pattern, and I’m no good and drawing crochet charts, so written will have to do.

I have made mine with 4ply (fingering weight) yarn and a 2.25mm (size 2) hook.

Flower

Round 1
Start with a Magic Ring for the centre loop.
Chain 4 and slip stitch back into the loop. (Do this until you have 5 petals)
Pull the ring until it’s almost closed.

Round 2
Double Crochet (Single Crochet) 5 times into the chained loop (petal), then slip stitch into the centre loop.
Repeat for all petals.

Pull through end and finish working yarn in the back of the flower, leaving the tail to use for sewing the flower onto the puff.

Leaf

Chain 7
Skipping one, slip stitch into next stitch.
Double Crochet (Single crochet) into next stitch twice.
Treble crochet (Double crochet) into next stitch.
Altered Double Treble (Treble crochet) into next stitch (instructions below)

Double Crochet (Single crochet) into next stitch twice.
Slip Stitch into the last stitch and pull yarn through.
Finish working yarn into the back of the leaf, using it to close up the centre vein if needed.
Leave the tail to use for sewing leaf onto puff.

Altered Double Treble (Treble)

Wrap yarn around hook twice
Pass into work
Wrap yarn around hook and bring back through work
Wrap yarn around hook and pass through 2 loops on the hook
Wrap yarn around hook and pass through remaining 3 loops on hook.

I hope you enjoy them as much as I do!
