Christmas 2011 Wrap Up

Christmas 2011 Wrap Up

I usually post about what gifts I’ve made at for Christmas.  The plain fact is that this year, I didn’t make any.  We bought gifts this year, which was so much less stressful!  I may make gifts for next year, but I wouldn’t count on it.

Junior Navy Bendigo Yarn

I did, however, receive some wonderful things this year that I think deserves some air time.

My husbands extended family bought me the yarn for my 2012 projects, which was superbly awesome.  Bendigo Luxury in Junior Navy in both DK and Fingering weight (8ply and 4ply), with enough yardage for my cardi, hat and gloves.

big_book_of_knitted_monstersI also got Rebecca Danger’s Monster book!  So excited!  I may have enough left to make myself a matching monster.  I enjoyed making her Hippo so much that I see monsters scattered throughout my house in the future.

blindsideMy husband did really well this year.  There’s usually a time of anxiety prior to Christmas when he tries to surprise me, to which the normal answer is for me to choose my gifts instead.  This year, he went and bought me something anyway. And there it sat, under the tree for almost a week.  In different wrapping paper, so it was like a big flashing sign saying “YOU DON’T KNOW WHAT I AM!!!”.  Luckily for me (and for him), I DID love it.  One of my favourite movies, The Blind Side, on Blu Ray.

Bag of AwesomesauceSo as not to break a long standing tradition, however, I did find myself in need of a new bag by Christmas, and I wasn’t going to get the Bag of Holding that I wanted due to exorbitant shipping fees (and the fact it wouldn’t have arrived by Christmas.. plus the husband already has one, so it would be wierd).  I actually found something a couple of days before Christmas, which ticked all the boxes.  It’s big enough for my phone, tablet, wallet, keys, makeup, knitting, waterbottle and a sandwich.  It’s canvas and neutral coloured (and kind of looks like the little sister to the Bag of Holding).  It has lots of pockets, internal and external, so it also fits my son’s medications if I need to carry them.  It is awesome.

My In-Laws have said they will forgo a Christmas gift for me this year to help me get the spinning wheel I want for my Birthday in February.. YAY!  I also got some money from my parents to put towards this.

I think all in all I did very well this year, I love everything and appreciate that the people in my life have been so thoughtful.

It Was a Blue Hawaii Christmas Party – Thank you Nuffnang

nuffnang

On Wednesday night I took myself over to the Bavarian Bier Cafe on O’Connell Street (not to be confused with the one on York Street) for the Nuffnang Christmas Party.  A little early in the season, yes, but it coincided with the Bloggers Festival, so it made sense.

I’m a little nervous in social settings where I don’t really know anyone, but was thankful that Leanne from the Fashionate Traveller and Janice from Chaigyaru were there, as I had met them previously.  The theme was “Blue Hawaii”, and about 1/3 of the people actually dressed up, some in just blue, like Leanne, and others went full sarong with inflatable palm tree!

I was somewhere in the middle with my husband’s blue hawaiian shirt and a handmade paper lei.  I had toyed with the idea of a grass skirt, and found out later it could have been the tipping point for winning the costume prize… oh well.  Next year!

artdecolightThe venue was pretty spectacular.  Anyone who knows me knows I loves me some Art Deco influences when it comes to architecture and design. From the large suspended lights that just make me want to see if there’s an oversized gorilla scaling the building, to the detail in the railing and windows, I was surrounded!

But back to the party.  It was just a lovely get together.  I met some other bloggers, from food bloggers (you should see the way they launch themselves at the platters with their cameras before ANYONE  is allowed to touch it!  It’s just amazing how quickly they can get their cameras ready!), a few fashion bloggers, a travel blogger, and a design blogger.  All very different in their approach to blogging too.

I was asked what type of blog mine was, and I really couldn’t give a straight answer!  I’m mostly a personal blog, with craft and vintage fashion/lifestyle/hair/makeup thrown in.. right?thegang

ladybeerOne of the fun things about the Bavarian Bier Cafe was the “Lady Beer” (unofficially titled the “Girly beer”), which is their house beer with a dash of fruit syrup (Peach, Lychee, Passionfruit, Cherry) served in a cocktail glass.  Sounds a bit iffy, but tastes AMAZING!  This fuelled the night for a lot of us.

joannaAt the end of the night there was a door prize, which was won by Joanna.  Lucky girl now has a brand spanking new iTouch!

I had such a good time, and loved meeting some new people.  Thank you Nuffnang for a great Christmas party!party

Box of Vintage Goodies

Box of Vintage Goodies

Way back in July, Stephanie at Tart Deco had a giveaway.  And I won!  Unfortunately, once it arrived, I was only able to unpack it long enough to squeal over it a bit before I had to pack it away again so I could reorganise some of my vintage stuff.  I found it (because, y’know, you always put good stuff away so well you forget where you’ve put it … err… yeah) last week so decided to seize the opportunity to take a photo of it all.
